It is true that a man is his work and the works is a reflection of the man
who generates and sustains it. Concerning the Pious Schools of Calasanz, Garcia Gomez has said, "Thay have a Spanish tint,
are well informed, comparatively liberal and very much loved by the people." It cannot be said better.
Canonically the Order of the Pious Schools started on March 25, 1617. They
soon expanded from Rome to Liguria, Naples, Tuscany, Germany, Sicily, Sardinia, and Poland. Two years before the death of
the founder, which occured in 1648, there were 37 schools and 490 religious.
