He served as a secretary of the Bishop of Barbastro and taught
the servant-boys in the Bishop's redidence. Perhaps this was the seed that began his educational vocation (1584-1585).
He was Bishop Gaspar La Figuera's
secretary and accompanied him to the Monzon Cortes. He was also a secretary on the commission to reform the Augustinians in
the Spanish Kingdom of Aragon (1585).
He was the confessor and examiner of Bishop La Figuera of
Lerida, and he went with the bishop to Montserrat for the Pontifical Visitation of the local monastery (1585-1586).
He was a Chapter secretary, master of ceremonies of the Cathedral
of Urgel, and the chief of staff of the new bishop Andrew Capella (1587-1589).
